Electric Vehicles - What are the benefits?

There are a lot of benefits to making the change to an Electric Vehicle, many people have already but if you are unsure it's right for you, this guide shows some of the benefits and things to consider.

Electric vehicles have already come a long way in a short space of time, in 2023 17% of all new car registrations were electric and the government are pushing to ensure all new registrations are electric within the next 10 years.

There are numerous benefits for driving an EV, below are some of the most obvious and current reasons people make the change.

BIK tax rates for Company Car Drivers

If you are a company car driver you are already probably fully aware of the benefits of driving an EV.

For the current tax year.

A car with zero CO2 emission is 2%.

A car with a 131 CO2 emission is 26%

As an example, if you are currently in a diesel Audi A3 and move into a VW ID3 you will save yourself £2,000 a year in tax deductions, based on being a 20% tax payer.

That is nearly £190 a month back in your pocket, if you are a 40% tax payer then the saving doubles!

Lower Running Costs

An obvious attraction is saying goodbye to petrol stations, of course you need to charge the car and you can see more on this subject in our Charging guide, it is though clearly a lot cheaper to charge the car than fill it with fuel!

On top of this, electric vehicles have no engines and very few parts that require servicing and maintaining, no exhaust, clutch just a couple of examples.

The cost to maintain and service an EV is far cheaper than a non EV.

Environmentally Friendly

Although this may not be the main reason many drivers make the change, let's face it, the more we do to help the environment the better, with zero Co2 emissions EVs not only help improve the environment, they help reduce air pollution which is linked to numerous conditions affecting the human population across the world.

Exemption from charges

EVs are exempt from the ever growing number of clean air zones and ultra low emission zones. Also exempt from the London Congestion Charge.

If you live or commute into any of the large cities if not already, soon an EV will probably be a much more cost effective and hassle free option.

Vehicle Performance and Technology

EVs are being built with more and more technology as standard, as the manufacturers compete to take a share in the largest growing sector in the industry, they're forced to come up with the most innovative new models they can full of tech.

Also EVs have extremely high performance levels compared to ICE equivalents, with no engine or clutch an EV can release power instantly, this translates into some of the highest 0 - 60 figures around!
